I have several lap quilts that are currently works in progress, so of course I am ignoring them & starting on something fresh & new. I've been anxious to stitch one of the new quilt patterns I discovered while at Quilt Market. Sassafras Lane Designs is an adorable mother daughter team who have made themselves known for their fresh & modern quilt patterns. I was delighted to learn that they decided to jump on the mini quilt craze and release six of their popular patterns in mini size.
Mini Privet Drive, Mini Firelights Lane, Mini Diamond Detour, Mini Canyon Boulevard, Mini One Way, Mini Wynkoop Court, Mini Firelights Lane (isn't the blue colorway beautiful?!)
I really like each and every one of these regular size quilts and they are even cuter in mini size. But I was especially drawn to Privet Drive, as it's paper pieced and I have a new found love for foundation paper piecing. It's like stitch by number! Everything stays nice and exact; I love it!
The catalyst to get me sewing rather than push this pattern to a "someday" project was to sign up for a mini quilt swap. I've done a couple of swaps, but that was several years & a couple kids ago. They are a fun way to stretch your creativity & learn new skills. My swap partner told me she likes modern quilts as well as the colors blue & green. The only other mandate is that I needed to use scraps and I have PLENTY of those!
There are 35 blocks all together; each block is a different main print. I still have so many fabrics in my scrap bins to to choose from, and many of them can be found in our shop as well.
Do you love mini quilts? Are there patterns you've wanted to see stitched up? Let us know! We love to know what inspires you!
