Charlotte in Minshan's Lotus Flower - by JillyAtlanta

It is the last day of our Minshan Fabric Tour. We have seen so many wonderful creations from our friends and we hope that you have been inspired by them all. You must take the time to see the Kimono Style dress that Deb from Sprouting JubeJube shared with us yesterday! She captured such a sweet feeling with her look. She paired lanterns & lotus flowers for perfect spring look! Then today, stop over at Sew Thrifty to see the adorable creations that Dana  has cooked up! She whipped up something for her little man & little lady that you will not want to miss- because there are some left over treats she is going to share. If you have missed any of the stops on the tour, do not fret, on Monday we will do a round-up post right here for you as well as a giveaway!
Today though, we are excited to have Jill from JillyAtlanta, guest post on our blog. She loves ice cream, old movies and is inspired by Audrey Hepburn & Grace Kelly. She has recently released a new dress, Charlotte, that I begged her to make for the tour! She choose one of my favorite prints from this fabric collection, the Lotus! The Lotus, like the other prints in the collection comes in three colors Pink, Turquoise, and Orange.

Hi, I am Jill from JillyAtlanta. I want to give a big shout out to Gemia & Leah for asking me to participate in this tour! They could not have picked a better fabric line to show off! While they did provide the fabric for this post, all opinions and ideas are my own. I had the pleasure of sewing up my new little dress, Charlotte, using the Lotus on Orange. Let me just say that it is incredible. The feel, the detailed look, the drape....LOVED it! The Lotus print is a delicate, yet graphic floral with a burnt orange background. The scale of this print is perfect for this sweet spring dress.
Although the name of the line Minshan, evokes an oriental feel to the collection, if you stand back a little you will find that the symmetry and color of the print also have a 60's feel, which is a perfect combination for this dress pattern.
Let me talk about this ruffled bib for a minute. Over at Phat Quarters Etsy shop you can also find many solid Peppered Cotton prints that coordinate with this fabric collection. I used the Paprika Peppered Cotton for the bib and it was ideal because it produces a hue all to its own. I choose to keep the bias strips raw because I love the frayed look. What is so neat about Peppered Cotton (also called Shot Cotton) is that it is created with two thread colors woven throughout- it's the same on the underside as topside. These characteristic make it perfect for showing off the bib detail of this dress!

Spring is right around the corner and so I wanted to modify my pattern a bit in anticipation. I chose to shorten the dress' hem length and use the 3/4 sleeve. It is perfection!
You can see the details of the print in these images- so beautiful! I love how each lotus flower is connected by tiny pin-dots. The symmetry is peaceful and delicate. The fabric was very nice to work with. As I mentioned before it has a gentle drape that allowed me to highlight some of the fun details of my pattern, like the back button closure.
Not much is better than the joyous smile of a happy little girl in her new dress, but then there is the fact that part of the proceeds from the sale of this fabric collection are going to Act of Wildlife to help in a protection program for Red Pandas and Giant Pandas in their natural habitat. So when you purchase any print from this line, know that you are also contributing towards a great cause. A happy daughter and guilt-free fabric buying...I guess it does get better!
Thank you Gemia & Leah for sponsoring this blog tour, bringing light to the fabric company Lewis & Irene, and for being just awesome!! If you have not taken the time to look through their fabric shop on Etsy, you are really missing out! Make sure to follow them and me on IG, FB, and Twitter! Hope to see you there!

xo Jill
