Thankful, Grateful, Blessed - for Karly Nelson of Paisley Roots

The other day I told you about why I started to test PDF Patterns and how I made more than clothing from my first test, but also a new friend. Today I want to tell you about another friend that I have made. When I started testing I was a very "to the letter of the pattern, don't make suggestions or changes because it is not your design kind" of tester. Slowly I gained confidence not only in my skills but in my role as a tester and how my input was valuable to the designer beyond, yes it fit and no the sleeve was too small. One day while scrolling through Facebook boards to find a new test I came across a dress that I fell in love with. It actually was 4 dresses and one in particular was perfect for me.

I was so excited when Karly Nelson of Paisley Roots allowed me to test her new All Spice Dress! I became scared when I began testing and came to a skill that I had not really done before. I really wanted to develop a good reputation for being a pattern tester and I had skills but somehow a zipper placket had never made it on to my to-do list. It took almost two days to build up the guts to write to Karly and tell her that I did not know how to do a zipper placket and that the instructions in the tutorial were not helping me. I thought she was going to kick me off the test. Not because Karly is mean or nasty - to the contrary she is an amazing person, but because I had revealed a weakness, a fault, a lack of skill. Karly did not kick me out but rather walked me through the process. I still royally screwed it up and had to create a little leather bow to affix of the base of the placket where I had destroyed my fabric.

Karly is now one my dearest online sewing friends- whom I have yet to meet in person! We have plans to party like the crazy nerdy school girls we are come Quilt Market this spring in SLC. I can not wait to meet her! I am very Thankful that Karly did not kick me out of that testing, but rather taught me the importance of my input as a tester. I grew because of her. I am grateful that she has become such a cherished friend of mine! I am blessed to share information, talent, dreams, and life with her!

This month all metallic prints are on sale in our SHOP. We can't wait to show you what Karly is able to do when you send her some amazing Art Gallery fabrics and you will not be disappointed in her skills. So be sure to check back next week.

I am Thankful, Grateful, & Blessed to have Karly in my life!
